Amanda Earl not very fictional i suppose, but i'd have to go to Montparnasse as depicted in A Moveable Feast, Memoir of Montparnasse and Kiki's Montparnasse, if that isn't too Midnight in Paris an answer for you.
Amanda Earl In the autumn of 2009, our protagonist, a healthy 46-year old woman, suddenly took ill and almost died. Doctors had no idea why the sudden illness happened and couldn't explain why she developed full body sepsis and had to have her colon removed.
Amanda Earl my most recent book is "A World of Yes" about a woman who falls asleep during her 35th birthday party and misses an orgy. i was in my early 40s when i wrote the first draft as part of National Novel Writing Month. I took whatever I was going through or thought about and wrote about it. I had a lot of single women friends back then and they also told me a lot of stories about how difficult it was for them to date. the whole question of monogamy came up too.
Amanda Earl i don't. writing is like breathing for me. it's essential.
Amanda Earl a series of city poems; a visual poetry adaptation of the Bible; short stories.
Amanda Earl 1. Read everything. All the time. Read more than you write.
2. Workshop your writing. Don't rely on family for feedback; they will always say it's good.
3. Avoid vanity presses: these are the publishers who will charge you a fee to publish your work.
4. Once you've done some workshops and learned how to edit your work, submit it to various publications. Don't be disenchanted by rejection. It's not personal. Just takes time to find the right match.
5. Once you've built up some credentials, apply for grants or assistance to fund your work.
6. Eventually you can self-publish, but don't rush into it. see steps above.
7. Don't give up.
Amanda Earl Independence. I don't have to answer to anyone. I can write whatever I want. Doesn't mean it will be read, but the readers I have in mind are the ones who are disenchanted with the status quo. I won't make a pile of dough this way, but I'll enjoy the ride.
Amanda Earl i move from one activity to another; i go for a long walk; i wander into cafes, art galleries, book stores. i eavesdrop on conversations. i have a good wank.
