Timothy Marsh Life, but not consciously. A song, a phrase or something random like a child's game might be the spark that causes many things to coalesce. But as I write, I see the undercurrents forming which explore themes that are on my mind and which truly drive the story.

I've noticed that my mind seems to slowly cycle around a seven year phase. Some years are highly creative, but not productive. I've learned to write out 'the bones' of my stories during this period and then, during productive years, I can turn to these bones and flesh them out. Sometimes they turn to dust, but there are always plenty left to inspire me.
Timothy Marsh As at May 2016:

I've just finished book one of The Jasper Chronicles: Asteroid Tours.

Ghost of Newsangtown is in the final stage of editing and looking for beta-readers. It is YA thriller, urban, modern, set in a western country, if you're interested in beta-reading, find me.

Tiphany Cuts Loose is the first of a series of books that take popular fictional icons and weave them together as believably as possible. This first book is set in the late 1500's. It is complete, but requires editing which entails a bit of historical research and learning nautical terms.

Dr Precarious, a superhero/supervillain novel is really much more like the blotter people have on their desks that they doodle on while talking on the phone. It is experimental, frivolous and fun. If you're writing every day, you need something to write on when not on project. If this becomes my best selling book, [insert emotion here]!
Timothy Marsh You must want to write. If you are only writing because it is something that you can do and you hope it will make an income, I think your energies would be better spent elsewhere.

Write a minimum of one-hundred words a day. That is not much, but it means you've sat down and begun. If it flows and keeps going, great. If not, you had a go. If that is all the time you had, it keeps the fiction fresh in your thoughts.
Timothy Marsh Having characters do things that, while hilarious, are utterly unacceptable due to their social impact. Caring about my impact on others really limits my behavior, but in a fictional world chaos can reign, hilarity ensues.
Timothy Marsh I've never had writer's block. Maybe this is because when I'm not hooked into a story that I'm writing, I'm editing something I've finished.

While I write, I'm watching the scene as if through a magic camera that can zoom right down into a character's thoughts, then writing down what I experience. I'm not concerned about the grammar, style or readability, I'm concerned about capturing everything accurately. So maybe this avoids me loosing focus and getting blocked.

Writing is like growing the beautiful, gnarled and twisted piece of wood that later, as an editor, I'm going to carve a story out of.
Timothy Marsh Mystic Corpse is an epilogue, hundreds of years after the events of The Cursed Ring of Moira and came from me wondering how the ring's unique powers would manifest in our modern world.

Moira hasn't been written yet, but I'm looking forward to delving into that world.
