Goodreads asked Timothy Marsh:

How do you get inspired to write?

Timothy Marsh Life, but not consciously. A song, a phrase or something random like a child's game might be the spark that causes many things to coalesce. But as I write, I see the undercurrents forming which explore themes that are on my mind and which truly drive the story.

I've noticed that my mind seems to slowly cycle around a seven year phase. Some years are highly creative, but not productive. I've learned to write out 'the bones' of my stories during this period and then, during productive years, I can turn to these bones and flesh them out. Sometimes they turn to dust, but there are always plenty left to inspire me.
