Hi Susan/Fred.
Great to hear from you both. Yes, I thought we’d be clever when we got to Moab & surprise you guys......rather than be sensible and let you know of our intentions.
We’re heading back home today, and i’ll respond more then.
I still have your card from 2 years ago with your email address, but wanted you to know I’d seen your very welcome message.
Hope life is treating you both well.
Speak soon.
Cheers......

Nice one, Rob.
Get that first book finished.........
Looking at the spine of a book which has your own name running down its edge is truly a great feeling!
Good luck with it!!

Hi Chris.
Thanks for the contact.
A long story.
My parents introduced me to westerns when I was knee high.
My dad always reckoned if the film itself was boring you could keep yourself amused by looking at the scenery haha.
I've always had a passion for books, even before I started school - and held a life-long ambition to see if I could actually write one of my own. Here's hoping you enjoy 'The Tainted Dollar' when you come to open its pages.
Hopefully you won't read too much of a Brit influence within it.
Please let me know what you think when you've finished it.
The third book should be out within the next couple of months.
It's actually the first novel I wrote, taking the last 9 months of 2013 - & has been a real labor of love.
Apart from Jake Base (who here has a far more reduced role) all the other characters (& the actual story line itself) are completely fresh.
Anyway, I'm going on too much!
Keep well.
Thanks again.
Cheers.

Hi Malcolm.
You know I've never even heard of the name until now!
Am I missing out on something?
The only sea stories I've ever read (so far as I can remember) were the Hornblower ones when I was at school.
Cheers.

(view spoiler)[Should I have read your book before "friending" you? Too late. I'll start "Tainted Dollar", today. (hide spoiler)]

Hi Andrew. It's not often you meet someone that has Derrick as a first (or indeed a middle) name. In my experience it's usually its spelt Derek if that's the case. I didn't realise there was a Derrick involved at Tyburn - I'll have to investigate that! Maybe I am related - who knows. Haha...wouldn't that be something! Cheers. Keep well.

Hi Vicki.
I hope you're well?
That's really nice to know. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from the read!
No, I don't live in the USA. We've had lot's of touring holidays there though! If I was lucky enough to win the lottery I'd like to change that and buy somewhere in AZ or NM.
I've never read Hal Borland. I'm assuming the books are good?
Cheers.

Book 3 is set around the Santa Fe Trail which ran from Missouri to Santa Fe NM.
I've always been historically interested in the brave settlers who travelled west to a place where they had no idea what was lying in wait for them - not on the trip itself or when they eventually arrived.
It made sense to incorporate that interest into a novel.

From reading so many books as a child.
I've always loved to create pictures with words.
Writing an actual novel is something I've always had an urge to do - but I was never able to devote myself to it fully until the end of March 2013.

The first book 'The Tainted Dollar' is out on the street, so to speak, having been published in November 2014.
Currently I have books 2 and 3 also written - so I'm busy re-reading and editing these.
Book 2 is a direct sequel to The Tainted Dollar.
Book 3 has the main character from the other two, but not in such a central role. Its also set against the backdrop of the Santa Fe Trail.

Write, write and write.
Don't forget the promotion and marketing of your work - most important if you self publish as I did.
I thought the actual writing process was going to be the most difficult aspect to master - wrong!

Independance.
Also the chance of giving life to your own characters, and putting them in situations that you may have liked to have been in yourself. Or conversely sitiations you're real happy you weren't ever in!

I go for a walk.
There's always something you can see or hear that will give you the inspiration you need to move on with the writing.

Hi, Stephen.
I'm very pleased that you say you're going to check out my work on here - thank you.
However I'm just a little confused.
You make it seem as if we've met recently - but I really can't remember when. Maybe you could help me out?
Keep well.
Cheers.........
