When someone is as excited about your stories and you were writing them. I had a friend tell me that her Easter dinner was late because she couldn't finish reading my book. That was the best compliment ever.

Write. Write. Write. I know this is common, but the more you do it, the more your natural voice comes out in the writing. It's that voice that draws people to your books and your stories. And don't give up. I wrote for 12 years before I received my first contract for a book. That was Obsidian. I wrote it while I had two small children and was working the 3-11 shift at a grocery store so I could be with them and take care of them. It was never easy to find time to write, but it helped my motherly sanity. :)

I am currently working on the second book in my Windsweeper Cove series. Some Kind of Wonderful is a tough story to write, but I took it on because I felt really passionate about it. The hero is Ian Crane, entitled rich boy who wants only to be a soldier and comes back injured and unable to do what he only ever wanted to do. Winter is his counterpart. She's struggling with two jobs and trying to put her younger brother through college. She's well aware of the differences in their upbringing, but they have so much in common that they just may save each other.

The stories show up in my head and they are so real to me that I need to get them on the page. I've found that the more real they are to me, the more others will love them too.

I wanted to write a book that was as true as I could get to the people of Maine and my experiences growing up here. This book was inspired by the closeness of the community and how hard they work to survive in these rural, coastal communities. Kara is every woman that I grew up with that did what was considered a man's job and did it just as well, if not better. She's not afraid of hard work or doing what she can to keep her family together.
