I'm a former foreign correspondent, radio journalist, and documentary maker for the BBC, NPR, the ABC, and other well-known public broadcasters, who decided to trade my flak jacket and reporter's notebook for an author's pen (or keyboard!).

I've been a nomad from the age of six-months, when my parents packed me and our Siamese cat into an old Renault and set off for a remote gold-mining town in Australia's Nullarbor desert. As an adult, I spent three decades living and working in some of the world's most intriguing, and dangerous, places. From Baghdad, to Bangkok, to New York. From Brazil to Canada to Sri Lanka. Recently I returned to Australia, to the wonderful city of Melbourne. When I'm not writing novels, I work in international developm

At the time, my closest Iraqi friend was working as an informant for the mukhabarat secret police and reporting on my every move. I don't hold it against her - after all, very few people could say no to the secret police. But I always wondered, was it just a job for her, or were we friends, in our own strange way? That was the starting point, and it evolved from there. The plot is fiction, but many of the incidents that occur come from real life. (less)

Yes, I would love to write another novel, and hopefully soon I'll start putting some ideas down on paper. Homeschooling my two kids due to COVID-19 (and managing a house renovation!) made it hard to find time to write - or to get into a creative headspace. But the kids are back at school now and my mental gears are starting to turn. BTW, my husband is Canadian - from Saskatoon :) All the best, Gina(less)

This is a great read for YA fans who enjoy dark gothic vibes, supernatural suspense, and mysterious libraries. The author has an evocative writing style and complex, quirky characters. A great pick for Halloween.
Evil Was a Child Once by Wendra Colleen
