Jyoti Guptara was born with a twin brother on 22.11.88 to a British mother and Indian father, though the family moved from England to Switzerland when he was seven. At eleven, the twins decided to stop writing stories they never finished, and finally complete a whole book. Shortly after becoming probably the youngest-ever writer in The Wall Street Journal, Jyoti dropped out of school to become the world’s youngest full-time writer at the age of 15.
The result was a 2,000-page Fantasy trilogy published between the ages of seventeen and twenty. In 2007, the County of Los Angeles awarded Scrolls of Honour to the Guptara Twins for “enriching lives” through philanthropy, literary achievement, and inspiring other young people. Suresh and Jyoti addressed the United Nations GAID (Global Alliance for ICT for Development) at their 2007 Youth Summit in Geneva. In 2008, the weekly national magazine Schweizer Illustrierte counted them among the “100 Most Important Swiss” on its annual list. In 2009, they were invited to address the inaugural Youth Summit of Kofi Annan’s Global Humanitarian Forum on issues of sustainability, escapism and reality. They are included in the Who is Who Bodensee 2010 – 2011 (from the four countries around Lake Constance).
Residencies include three months at St Stephen’s College, Delhi University; the 6-week Palomar5 Innovation Camp in Berlin; and the Chretzeturm Fellowship: three months as Writer in Residence of the City of Stein am Rhein, Switzerland.
Jyoti’s journalistic writing has included a column in Switzerland’s largest subscribed daily newspaper. He is an internationally experienced speaker in both English and German and has spoken at such eminent literary occasions as the Leipzig and Frankfurt book fairs, Switzerland’s Solothurner Literaturtage, the C. S. Lewis Summer Institute in Oxford and Cambridge, and India’s Kitabfest.
