I figure if it is something that I'm struggling with or marveling in or learning about, someone else is or has probably experienced the same thing. In some cases I write because I want to learn more about a topic. Then I'll research and connect with experts to get a solid background for my writing. Other times I'm inspired to write by the need to process the emotional side of an experience. Or I come out the other side of a difficulty and write the book or article that I wish I'd had while in the midst of my troubles.(less)

What is supposed to be naïveté on the part of the protagonist comes across more as awkwardness and social ineptitude. And not in an endearing way, but simply forced. Like the author did not want us in any way to miss that she was naive.
