This is probably a 3.5 rounded up. The first half was OK and I put it down for a week because I wasn't drawn in but I did pick it back up and then around the 60/70% mark I was really invested but then lost interest around 80%.

I read this in a couple of days. Brilliant premise, good execution. Clever and some lovely writing that makes it highly quotable.

I think some of the reviews are a bit harsh. It is slower paced but I found that in the original trilogy too and it matches the bleakness and "slog" of life in this world.

The ending I expected to feel like a gut punch you know is coming but I dont t

“RUDYARD KIPLING If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream – and not make dreams your master; If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!”
Laura Barber, Penguin's Poems for Life

“That is the motto women should constantly repeat over and over again. Good for her! Not for me.”
Amy Poehler, Yes Please

“The Perfectionist pushed Tom onto her bed. She took off his shirt. She took off his shoes and his socks. She took off his pants. She took off his boxers.

With most guys the Perfectionist would stop there. She didn’t. She was still feeling reckless. She took off his skin. She took off his nervous system. She lifted up his rib cage. His heart beat in her hand. And there, underneath it, she found a rusted tin box. She opened it. Inside she found his hopes, his dreams and his fears. She stared at them. She was surprised to find them there and surprised at how beautiful they were. At that exact moment, the Perfectionist fell in love with Tom.”
Andrew Kaufman, All My Friends are Superheroes

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse.
I am not a muse.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

“Men often think they deserve a sticker for treating women like people.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

“Qui tacet consentire videtur is Latin for “Silence gives consent.” When we say nothing, when we do nothing, we are consenting to these trespasses against us.”
