The reading of my latest book at The Carlisle was a great success. Elizabeth Whipple, copy writer and editor, wrote this about a recent reading of my book, '7/Day World'. "Adrienne's May 16 reading was a wonderful event. Packed house, skilled readers, and AW looked lovely. Glad to see lots of books sold. Hope to get another reading for AW in the coming months. Her writing is both powerful and lovely."

Wolfert Poetry featured in Nomadic Grounds Coffee in SF

You can now enjoy my poetry with your morning cup of coffee if you try Nomadic Grounds coffee in SF. They have included several of my poems with the coffee. The poem below is also featured in my up coming book, 7 Day World. I have changed the title from Departure, which was mentioned in my last post.

Autumn Song

The sugar maple,
In her headdress of yellow leaves,
refuses to yield
her summer
ornaments.

The hollow of her space
filled with denser light,
her roots found deeper veins
to quench an endless thirst.

Some secret life
blessed
her…

But the winds slip
round, pulling the pins
till the feathers fall

even though she’s a princess
casting seeds in the ice.
The chartreuse sun cools.

These poems will be in my new book, Departure, which will be published later this fall. Departure contains 90 years of writing: stories, my favorite poems including shape poetry and many self reflective pieces from a long life of searching for meaning. Hopefully you will find something that speaks to you.

New Book Coming from a Long Lifetime of Writing

Departure , the new book is in the publisher's hands and it is my hope that it will be out before Christmas? It is selection of short stories, poetry and other short writings from my life time of writing plus many of my daughter's etchings. I describe is as quick readings for busy people. So if you are waiting for your dinner to warm or for a tardy train, you can find something to just fit into that time slot and read it. This will be a perfect book for the e-reader too or for falling asleep!

Book Club loves The Twelve O'Clock Bus

Record numbers attended the Carlisle Book Group discussion of The Twelve O'Clock Bus. They had a lively discussion of many aspects of the book and all really enjoyed it-some read it twice.

Here are some of their comments:
"The author handles the big scenes well - the rape scene, the political scene and the main theme of coming of age from foster child to independent woman. An ambitious piece of work and it succeeds!"

"The description of the farm during the depression is impressive, the reader feels they are there."

"Poignant and tender."

The Future

I am enthusiastically motivated for my next book. I have already got the title - Quick Reads for Busy People. It is a collection of poems and short stories. Here is a little something from it:

Freefall

The shadow of a bird
flies over desert and mountain --

So does the shadow of
God follow our flight
through life --

We will never know the
bird.
