A Little Something for the Season of Light

Lighting Sabbath Candles

The flames claw the wall before they take their shape/
I put out every fire in my mind/
the flame throwers/
the furnaces/
the burning witches/
until I see the bush of/
Sinai and meditate on Moses/
raised with leisure
to think/
the significance of Sabbath rest/
The G-d of Abraham
has made a working brain/
Moses carved onto the rock/
the outpouring of genes/
The fire is reality/
Bless bless the wick
of conflagration in our
furious planet.

verse-masks
fish-eyed philosophy

my lawn looks snowy,
out of season
neighbors are curious
tv crews arrive
people I never met
are interviewed about my habits
waded in drifts,
they are reading

The reading of my latest book at The Carlisle was a great success. Elizabeth Whipple, copy writer and editor, wrote this about a recent reading of my book, '7/Day World'. "Adrienne's May 16 reading was a wonderful event. Packed house, skilled readers, and AW looked lovely. Glad to see lots of books sold. Hope to get another reading for AW in the coming months. Her writing is both powerful and lovely."
