Mary Soon Lee was born and raised in London, but has lived in Pittsburgh for thirty years. She is a Grand Master of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association, and three-time winner of both the AnLab Readers’ Award and the Rhysling Award. Her latest books are from opposite shores of the poetry ocean: How to Navigate Our Universe containing 128 astronomy poems, and The Sign of the Dragon, a novel-length epic fantasy told in poetry. She hides her online presence with a cryptically named website (marysoonlee.com) and an equally cryptic BlueSky account (@marysoonlee.bsky.social).

They are very different people, yet fit together. They come to like and trust each other, and, in time, to be lovers without a whole series of forced misunderstandings and artificial obstacles. Plus, I have a soft spot for gay partnerships.

I note that my favorite non-romantic fictional friendship between two characters is that between Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin in Patrick O'Brian's superb Napoleonic-era naval series.(less)

This is a science-fiction novella with much the same appeal as the author's Wayfarers series. It's moving and warm, its characters likable and fallible and compassionate, its storytelling gentle.

"Let me just admit at the outset that I enjoy Collins's work, that I have always liked the permission he gives to just being playful in poetry, and the serious undertones that emanate from what can appear to be frivolous subjects and observations. The" Read more of this review »

This is a haunting, beautifully-told collection of poems about love, gender, bodies, and trauma. I loved the way the book was split into sections that each began with a prose poem about a bone (Cranium, Mandible, Sternum et al).

Mary Soon Lee is starting Wuthering Heights: A re-read. I believe I last read this in 1994, when I didn't especially care for it. I don't normally re-read books unless I liked them very much, but in this case a family member is reading the book and I wanted to read along....
