Deborah Barcus Turcol was born and raised in the mid-West and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. She graduated from the University of Hawaii-Honolulu with a B.A. in Elementary Education/Special Education.

She has lived in Iowa, Missouri, Hawaii, California, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and Georgia. Her careers have included being a teacher, a buyer for the aerospace industry, a director of retail sales, an interior designer, a real estate agent, and an author.

Reading has always been her passion and when she is not reading, she is writing. In her spare time, she volunteers in the Criminal Investigation Division at her local Police Department following up with victims of crime.

Then I struggled with writer's block like crazy and I was baffled by all the trouble and frustration it caused me. I seemed too close to the books to condense them down to a couple paragraphs. One thing I can offer if you do come down with a dreaded case of writer's block is to let go of the control of your book and let the characters take it over. You'll be amazed how it frees you up!(less)

The other great advantage of being a writer is being able to create characters...good ones, bad ones and everything that falls in between. One of my favorite things is to throw in twists and turns in the plot line, too. I like making the reader think one thing and then a couple chapters later know they will be thinking..."What the....?"(less)
