So, What Do We Do Now?

Today President Trump held a meeting with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. During the meeting President Trump was supposed to address Russian meddling in our elections in 2016 and the ongoing investigation by our justice department. Televised portions of the interviews show President Trump supporting President Putin and sidelining the findings of our intelligence departments. The response from the media has been swift and hot. In the eyes of many people our president is compromis...

A Pot of Tea, a Loo, and a Ruckus

[image error]      I've been in Lincoln for over a week now, long enough to get over the worst of the jet lag and get acclimated. I'm staying with my partner, Paddy, in his flat in the northern part of the city and most days we walk the one and half miles down into the Bailgate and on to the High Street where all the little shops and cafes are. Yesterday we walked down to get some groceries and to stop and have a cup of tea (me) and a coffee (Paddy).
Down on the high street there is a place call...

Day 31: Huzzah!

[image error] Once there were several charming ladies
who thought they might like to write.
For a month they persevered,
to daily writing they adhered,
until none who were left, were quite right.

                               ;-)

Huzzah! This is my last entry for the write-every-day-in-July challenge. It was difficult, to say the least, to write something everyday and post it, harder even than the poetry challenge I did last year with Magaly and pals.
It was also very productive. Not everyt...

Day 30: Silver

[image error] Ophelia had no fear of leeches,
and neither do I, my love,
though for different reasons.
I stood calf deep today
in the muddy shallows
of a rain stricken lake.
It was all silver, the way water is
when the sun shines through rain.
I, like her, have suffered from love,
from untenable afternoons in
sun filled prisons,
and absence like fire,
that turned my insides to ashes.
No flowers in my hair though
for I intend to live.
I will die a bride of Dionysus
and a friend of Demeter.
I dislike pomegranates
so H...

Day 29: Ex Nihilo, Mauris.

Picture           Tonight while having dinner with a friend, he happened to mention the zero energy universe, which is:

"The zero-energy universe hypothesis proposes that the total amount                  of energy in the universe is exactly zero: its amount of                                            positive energy in the form of matter is exactly canceled out by its                      negative energy in the form of gravity." -(Wikipedia)

       So basically everything cancels ou...

Day 28: No, Not Really.

[image error] I saw Casablanca when I was 16,
dumbass teenager,
cigarettes and a bottle of Jack,
"I'm so fucking cool now,
way cooler than you."
I had no clue really.
"I get that it's a sad song,
and it makes him think of his girl,
loved and lost,
but it can't hurt that bad
can it?...even for years?
Don't you just...get over it?"

No, not really.

We don't get things
until we live things,
not so well anyway,
until the grief sucks you in,
head first, holds you underwater
until you don't care to kick.

Getting over thi...

Day 27: A Haiku or Two

Picture Pokemon Go
I will walk the streets,
a warrior who searches.
Pocket monster, come.

Dinosaur Porn
Oh monstrous, T-rex,
I so want to T-sex you,
love your little arms.

I realize that these haikus might require some justification, so let me explain. Tonight I went to dinner with some friends and we had a lovely time. The constituents of the dinner were a young geology major (my son), a math teacher (me), a writer, and and an astronomer. Naturally things got a bit nutty. Of course we t...

Day 26: Politically Incorrect Joke Books from the 1940's.

Picture           Yesterday I walked downtown to go the post office and on the way home I happened to pop into a new antique store.  I didn't really mean to look for or purchase antiques, it was just hot and I wanted to cool off a bit. Inside I was pleasantly surprised by some of the things in the store. In particular I happened upon a box filled with little books, the size of the one above. Browsing through them I realized that I had found a treasure trove of politically incorrect joke books w...

Day 25: Dark Times

[image error] Who sits with crows
at the top of concrete stairs
in the green gloom of the city?
It’s crumbling, you see.
Rubble litters the streets
and fear.
Fine arches and turrets
march slowly
towards the shabby elegance of ruins.
Someone has gone through
and lit it with torches
but it’s still cold.
The shadows have only deepened.

Day 24: Movie Review – Sort Of – No Spoilers: Ghostbusters

Picture           This afternoon I went to see the new Ghostbusters movie, a reboot of the original but …with ladies. I enjoyed it very much but not because it was better than the first movie. It wasn’t at all. It didn’t have the same heart or depth of story. Characters in the original were adorably quirky or just hilarious (Bill Murray) which just wasn’t true in this one. I love Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones is also great, but Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon were just kind of meh. This mad...
