Update: Books/CD

“Greetings! My thriller Deathload is getting a new face, including new title and new cover (by early October)!

Still listed as Deathload until that time, the new title will be: Legacy Of The Warthog.

Also beginning promotion on my young adult novel, Onions.

Another promotion: my kid’s CD, Aesop’s Shop, CD adapted from the musical Aesop’s Fables first produced at the Martinique Theatre Off-Broadway in NYC. Great for kids two to eight!

You can go to Amazon for all of these properties and buy a copy! Aesop’s Shop is also available at CD Baby. Search Onions book by Cy Young, and Aesop’s Shop CD by Cy Young. Deathload by Cy Young is as is.

I’ve finished a fourth book, Kicker, featuring an NFL ace kicker, Anthony Scarmazino, who moonlights off-season as a P.I.

Now starting the second book on the Kicker series, which I plan to do as a trilogy."

Ted Mack's Amateur Hour

Ted Mack
By Cy Young•05/8/19•0 Comments
My First National Appearance (On Radio)

Most people probably don't know or remember the Original Amateur Hour hosted by Ted Mack.  It was in the early forties.  Mack would travel around the states auditioning people and those selected would appear as contestants on his radio show.  As a teenager, I had become one of the top trumpet players in Kansas City.  I was the first coronet in the All-City Orchestra in K.C., auditioned for the Ted Mack show, and won a slot as a contestant playing a variation of "Flight Of The Bumblebee."  It was pretty neat.  The orchestra was composed of professional local musicians, one of which was the dad of my girlfriend, Beverly Rotroff, who later was crowned Miss Missouri in the Miss America Contest.  I remember my performance for the Amateur Hour; I played well but didn't win any prizes.  My uncle and aunt in Oakland happened to be listening and were a little surprised to hear their nephew tooting through the airways from the midwest! I continued studying trumpet in Chicago while I was attending Northwestern but decided to focus on theater, singing, and later ballet and tap.  Interesting note: In my Young Adult novel, Onions, my pre-teen hero, 12-year old Charles Wesley Onions,  learns to play the trumpet from a retired circus performer.  My early study of the instrument was the inspiration for that dramatic link in the book.  And here's the link to:
