Sherry Jones is an American journalist and internationally best selling author of the controversial "The Jewel of Medina" and other historical fiction books.

Her forthcoming novel, THE FIVE WIVES OF BILLY TIPTON, explores the true-life story of transgender musician Billy Tipton and his marriages with five women, the last three of whom never knew that he was biologically female. Filled with Tipton's comic, homespun wit as well as the vibrant personalities of the colorful women he loved, THE FIVE WIVES OF BILLY TIPTON will take readers on a musical journey through the American midwest of the 1930s and 40s as well as the inner journey of a woman who lives for

She lived such a fascinating life, freewheeling and wild and so full of love, yet she suffered such heartache when life denied her the one thing she wanted most. She went on to become a courageoua war hero, awarded the French medal of honor, and one of the U.S.'s first outspoken desegregationists, even sacrificing her career for the cause!(less)

Even historians haven't been kind to her, calling her weak, manipulative, etc., but i saw her as very courageous. My decision to take her down the Nile just after childbirth to negotiate her husband's releaae with the Egyptian queen Shajar-al-Din did the trick, I think, and Beatrice's memory of her blugeoning a crocodile with an oar.

Speaking of Beatrice, she was the most enjoyable to write. As the bratty baby of the family, she took on a snarky tone and developed a ruthlessness that made me laugh. I rubbed my hands with glee whenever it was her turn in the story, eager to unleaah my inner bitch!(less)

Kick-ass women in history

Josephine Baker, A’isha bint Abi Bakr, and other inspirations

As we wrap up Women’s History Month, I reflect on the difference the heroines in my novels have made in the world they lived in and today, including in my own life.

From A’isha bint Abi Bakr, the youngest wife of the Prophet Muhammad and protagonist of my novels The Jewel of Medina and The Sword of Medina, to the four amazing sisters from

“...but I realized now that love was more than a feeling. Love was something you did for another person...”
Sherry Jones, The Jewel of Medina

“How many times in life have I been advised to "toe the line," to "tone it down," to stop "pushing the envelope"? As a journalist, I had to keep my opinions to myself for 30 years. I thought that, as an artist, I'd have the liberty to express my views. Now I'm told that doing so might hurt my readership.

I'm so idealistic, as I said elsewhere on FB today, that I think people ought to read my books because they're good. Period.”

“I placed a bowl of herbs and ointments in the window of my bedroom, and let the scented breeze carry him away . . .”

Topics Mentioning This Author

“In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.”
Sam Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation

Iain Hi Sherry, thank you for the connection.
Did you see the Google Doodle today of Adelaide Hall? Coincidence!
I was hoping to pop over to Paris sometime next year, so definitely we shall have to meet up. If you contact me via my website (link on my Goodreads page) I can send you my personal email.
Peter got invited by President and Bridgit Macron to Josephine's Paris' Panthéon mausoleum event. He attended, and I was to have gone with him, but I didn't have a Covid jab, hence my reluctance to go. Never mind, Peter enjoyed the celebration.
