Sort of a hyper-focus I've be…moreYou know what- that's funny b/c I never have. Now I'm thinking why not? At least for me, my mind goes blank when I ride. Sort of a hyper-focus I've been told. The flip side is I ride to clear my mind. But I can honestly say I have never gotten an idea for writing b/c of a ride. I did write a motorcycle travel book, but because I had so many photos and videos I considered it a good idea. But the idea did not happen while I was riding, only after. At the time I only thought I'll have awesome pictures.

You know what- now next time I'm riding, I'll be going nuts trying to come up with an idea and I'll blame you for that, lol. But in all honesty, my ideas just come out of nowhere. A thought came to my mind today about someone doing a complicated scheme to steal from a bank and I jotted down some notes on it. Just a thought but I expand it from there.

One more thing, I do want to write more motorcycle related fiction books. Besides, I can do "research" and have to ride to do it.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

If for whatever reason I don't feel as sharp that day and I notice I'm "dragging" to get the words flowing, then that day becomes "editing day." You will be surprised how quickly you could reach your word count total for the day just by editing. I believe this works for me because I just reprogrammed my thought process versus focusing so intently on what's next. Sometimes I may even read/edit the chapters out of order. If I'm just too tired that day for whatever reason, then there's always tomorrow. My current sequel I had a couple of days where I went "blank" and so I spent the last two days editing.

One trick that I like to do is to "slow down" my thinking (my overactive mind) when I'm going to bed, and I accomplish that by writing the next chapter in my mind. When I wake up, I feel like I'm cheating because I already know what to write.

If I'm writing and it's just one of those days where I'm struggling, I just continue writing knowing that when I edit, while lot of words well get deleted, I do pick up tidbits that I know I can use. (less)
