Phil Miller is the author of From the Lives We Knew, a novel-length collection of tales told by refugees from the West Bank of Palestine, Kosovo, and Iraq, all with connections to one American couple.
A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Phil studied at Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University. His occupations have included pastoral ministry, military chaplaincy, massage therapy, and nonprofit administration. He retired from the Air Force in 2010 with the rank of colonel.

Pitch In — Where?

No, I’m not talking about human vandals. It’s the bear, raccoon, or turkey vulture that would make a mess of the trash.

The “Adopt-a-Mile” sign on the county road features a cartoon figure dropping a wrapper into a trash can. It says, “Do Your Part, Pitch In.” If you think this sign literally lets drivers and their passengers know what to do with their litter, guess again.Litterbug2

Albert Schweitzer
“He comes to us as One unknown, without a name, as of old, by the lakeside,
He came to those men who knew Him not. He speaks to us the same words: "Follow thou me!" and sets us to the tasks which He has to fulfill for our time. He commands. And to those who obey Him, whether they be wise or simple, He will reveal himself in the toils, the conflicts, the sufferings which they shall pass through in His fellowship, and, as an ineffable mystery, they shall learn in their own experience Who He is.”
