Greg Seymour is a quitter. He and his wife Jen had achieved the American Dream – and subsequently discovered it was a nightmare. They had money and possessions, but no time to enjoy them. In 2013 they each left successful careers, sold everything, and moved to Costa Rica.

They began accumulating adventures rather than stuff. After 4 years in Costa Rica they thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. Most recently they spent 50 days in Europe, which included a walk of the 500-mile Camino de Santiago.

Greg is the author of two books about assimilating to expat life in Costa Rica and he has co-authored, with his wife, a tip book for prospective thru-hikers of the Appalachian Trail.

On the days that I choose to do something I work on one of two projects.

Firstly, a memoir, covering the period of dissatisfaction with my career that lead to an eventual early retirement in Costa Rica. I take a humorous approach to: choosing whether to buy a business or find a new job, deciding to move to a foreign country, our due diligence trip, our move, and our life the first two years in Costa Rica.

My second project involves researching the Location Independent lifestyle and interviewing those who have succeeded in making it a reality. It is the lifestyle I am building for myself.

Both subjects I am passion about and that is what I consider as "retirement." Having the time to pursue ones passions. (less)

One Pair of Shorts to Rule them All – Kuhl Men’s Shorts

The Hunt for the Perfect Pair of Shorts

I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of shorts for our upcoming bikepacking trip on the Katy Trail in Missouri, and I have found them. As luck would have it, Kuhl reached out during my research and offered to send me a pair of shorts from their Men’s Shorts page. They didn’t have to ask me twice!

My goals for the shorts were simple. First, comfort above all.

Mark Twain
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad / Roughing It

Mark Twain
“Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion--several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn't straight. He has made a graveyard of the globe in trying his honest best to smooth his brother's path to happiness and heaven....The higher animals have no religion. And we are told that they are going to be left out in the Hereafter. I wonder why? It seems questionable taste.”
