Karlyle Tomms is a writer who grew up in rural Ozarks poverty. He has written for different regional magazines and newspapers over the years, and has often been selected to speak at both professional and non-professional events, as well as radio talk shows. However, he had never written or published fiction until completing his first novel in 2012. His general method for fiction has been to define a character and allow that character to tell his or her own story from first person perspective as though the character is writing an autobiography. Through his characters he explores the psychology of the human condition as well as the various elements and entanglements of personalities. His novels incorporate the social and historical influences ...more

It was a single car fatality that occurred on a sunny day with dry pavement. The car ran off the road, and down an embankment in an isolated section of highway that was off the usual path one might have taken. It killed my mother, and her body was so mutilated that it required a closed casket funeral. However, my step-father, who supposedly was driving, walked away with barely a scratch, and stated he had rolled down the embankment in the same vehicle that was completely totaled. It was ruled as an accident by the Missouri State Police who did not do a thorough investigation, but my aunts had always speculated that my step-father had murdered her and staged the accident to cover it. After she died, my step-father took all her possessions and disappeared. I never saw him again, and had only met him one time before that happened.

Someday, I am going to write my own story. I have had friends who have encouraged me to do that for several years now. . Thanks for the question. (less)

Thank you for the question. I have never actually attempted horror. It is a genre that has never created much appeal for me.

EDGE OF SMOKE

Comment: I began to write this as a prologue for my upcoming novel Edge of Smoke. However, it began to become much more than a prologue for the book, and I think it stands alone at this point. I will rewrite the prologue for Edge of Smoke, but I want to put this out there as an essay that describes what the fictional story is oriented toward. Watch for the release of Edge of Smoke, probably someti Read more of this blog post »

“One of the biggest relationship mistakes is trying to "make" another person happy. The only person you can make happy is yourself. We are each 100% responsible for our own happiness. Take responsibility for your own happiness and let everyone else take responsibility for theirs.”

“Maybe that's the genius you were talking about," I said. "The genius to heal it is to hit it head on and keep hitting it 'til you develop the strength to deal with it. Make sure you don't pull the rug over it and pretend it isn't there. Talk about it. Face it. Feel it. 'Til you heal it.”
Karlyle Tomms, Confessions from the Pumpkin Patch

“Child, I am telling you that you don't have to do anything to be special." She leaned forward a little more and patted my arm to call my attention. When I turned to look, her eyes met mine with a gaze of pure love. "You are already special," she went on. "You don't have to get an education to be special, but you can if you want to. You don't have to cure cancer to be special, but if you do the world would be grateful. God don't make nobody who ain't special. It means we are all equal in his love. There ain't no way around it. If you believe that love is real, then we are all equal in it.”

James Moushon Hi.

I’d like to introduce myself. Besides being the author of the Jonathon Stones Mystery Series, I am a strong Author's Advocate. I write articles highlighting other authors books. Also, I do author interviews and post them on my blogs. Thanks for friending me.
