To have a published book is a lifelong dream-come-true for me. The fact of the matter is that the original manuscript for "The Power in the Blood" was written in the early 90's. I know many of you will find this hard to believe, but I still have the original manuscript that was typed out on an electric typewriter. At that time no publisher was interested in a Southern vampire novel. The original title that it was copyrighted under was "Shades of Gray." Wow, talk about timing being everything.

Eventually, life events like raising a family and making a living took precedent over dreams, and my book languished in a filing cabinet for over twenty years. Finally, in 2014, I decided to give it one last shot. I figured with the advent of self-publishing and e-books, what could it hurt? Fortunately, I was able to hook up with Tony Cratz and Direidi Publishing, and he was a tremendous help to me. On March 15, 2015, my dream came true, and I became a published author.

I am one of those who truly believes age is a state of mind. I have always been young at heart. Given a choice between watching a space western or some critically-acclaimed, bombastic tale of symbolic drudgery, I'll take spaceships and fighting aliens any day! As long as I have my imagination and the will to use it, I will be just fine.

I have been told I am a good storyteller. I think I would rather be known for that, than as a famous author. Anybody can write a book, but not everybody can tell a good story! As much as I would love to write swashbuckling tales of action and adventure, I have to admit, I am a bit of a hopeless romantic at heart, and it always seeps into my writing. Oh well, what can you do?

2015 has been a wonderful year for me as a whole. In January, I married my lovely bride, Jennifer. Somewhere in our romance is a good book, or at least a made-for-tv movie. She was my first sweetheart in junior high, and I gave her that magical first kiss when she was thirteen. We went steady until my sophomore year, and then we drifted apart. We remained so, until years later, divorces and the wonderful invention of Facebook brought us back together. After almost 30 years, we quickly discovered the spark was still there. Today, we reside in the Birmingham, Alabama area. She has two wonderful children, a boy and a girl, and I have an adult daughter now, with a grandson and granddaughter. Life is good!

I am a product of the 70's and 80's. Luke Skywalker, Buck Rogers, Indiana Jones, and the Duke Boys, those were my heroes coming up. I was reading adult fiction from the time I was in the sixth grade. One of my greatest influences was Wilbur Smith (I learned about the birds and the bees from the novel "A Sparrow Falls"). To me, he was the consummate novelist. Every book had a blend of adventure, intrigue, romance, and sex to satisfy just about anyone. Later on in life, Alabama novelist, Robert R. McCammon would also become a major influence on me. His masterpiece, "Boy's Life" is probably the greatest book I have ever read. I have read it from cover-to-cover at least three times. and each time is just like reading it the first time all over again.

I used to have quite a few hobbies, but life has gotten so busy now, that I rarely have time for many extra-curriculars. I love music. I have always enjoyed the harder side of rock, but in spite of myself, as I have gotten older, I have grudgingly drifted more toward country. I guess we all eventually become "those old folks" we used to shake our head at. Sad.

I am currently working on my next novel, which I hope to have ready by the end of the year.

A peek ahead ...

My next project is underway. It will be what I like to call a "Southern noir" piece, a crime novel inspired by true events and set in the Tennessee mountains. It will definitely be a darker, grittier piece. It will be a trip to a bad place with bad people.
