A peek ahead ...
My next project is underway. It will be what I like to call a "Southern noir" piece, a crime novel inspired by true events and set in the Tennessee mountains. It will definitely be a darker, grittier piece. It will be a trip to a bad place with bad people.

As a reader, I have always liked to use my imagination to see what I read. At the same time, I can have an issue with reading a book where the writer wants to spend page after page setting scene where he or she feels the need to describe every minute detail. By the time the scene is set, I have usually lost my train of thought. I would much rather be given a few basic setup details, and then the writer allow me to fill in the rest with my imagination.
I try to write the same way. I want to set a scene and then allow the reader to go from there and build their own little movie in their head. On occasion, I want the reader to see something exactly as I see it, and I will take that extra time and effort in description and detail. I believe a book is a partnership between the author and the reader. The reader, who had paid for the book, should have some liberties, and not be force-fed every single detail.
