If that fails, I'll look at what needs to change right before I got stuck. If that fails, I'll skip ahead and fill in the blanks later. If THAT fails, I'll work on something else. And if that fails, it's probably time to take a walk or a nap and come back with fresh eyes. (less)

"If the muse is late for work, start without her."
Peter S. Beagle, quoting his Uncle Raphael
Writing is work, and like any other kind of job, the most important thing is showing up regularly.
Ritualize it with your special mug and your magic pen, set an interval timer that reminds you that you should be writing and stretching, put it in your calendar as an unbreakable date- just show up as often as possible so the muse knows where to find you. (less)

Not perfect or life altering but it’s not meant to be and it is a very fun read. Glad I went in with no expectations., even though that meant at times I was thinking “wait, is this going to be one of them spicy books?” I’ll be continuing the series.

Very much ‘of its time.’ I understand why it was so popular. No editing issues, per se, but a couple words were horribly misused. Unsure if it helped sell the “naive teen perspective” idea or “nobody looked this word up even once in the production of ...more

Re-read this for a challenge and I still love it. Even as kids we disagreed if it was good or bad and if that tree was okay.

That’s part of why I love this book. We love a tree as a character in so few words. And the tree gives everything for so litt
