Terminus Article 18

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

It is the year 260 GA, 2751 CE on the Earth calendar, and Earth is in crisis.

Unfortunately, the Deviants’ warnings were proven correct in 2387 when the Naipans, now independent of the Regime and seeking their own conquests, invaded Earth again. The meager defenses were easily swept aside and the Naipans had free reign until the Somontran Republic belatedly arrived to dislodge them. This trauma turned many on Earth towards the xe...

Terminus Article 17

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

It is the year 260 GA, 2751 CE on the Earth calendar, and Earth is in crisis.

It is a war-torn wasteland divided between two bitter rivals living on the remaining scraps of inhabitable land after two separate global catastrophes. The democratic Provos live in Europe while the fascist Deviants live in North America. The two sides have been locked in a cold war for over three centuries. The Deviants are militarily stronger but the ...

Terminus Article 16

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

There are 65 Mandate worlds in the Great Alliance, varying greatly in biomes and population sizes. The GA is divided amongst five Sectors; Capital in the center, Blue to the west, Core to the north, Sov to the east, and Rim to the south.

Sov Sector is almost entirely comprised of the former worlds of the Sovereignty. There is an old saying; things are different in the East. The Sovs were genetically engineered to be the perfect s...

Terminus Article 13

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

While the years preceding the beginning of the series in 260 GA were relatively quiet, there were still some momentous occasions.

In 228, the year that young Sarah and Danni were shipped off to Naval School by their mother for punishment, turmoil began to strike the GA. Inflation and general union strikes crippled the economy. Majestrix Deborah Lysing, a Liberal, led a weakened federal government inviting a greater disaster.

I...

Terminus Article 12

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

There are generally no large scale land battles. A single ship in orbit could bombard any ground forces into oblivion once any defensive shields have been depleted. The GA possesses an advantage in hand-to-hand combat thanks to their Royals. Mundane humans or Baraki stand little chance. The Ronains’ native strength can match a Royal and they do have technological advances to even the playing field, but even they must rely on greater...

Terminus Article 11

Some background information on my sci-fi YA series Terminus

No teleporting and no physical shields.

The spaceships of all the known races use missiles, directed energy weapons, energy shields, and faster than light travel. The directed energy beams are only used in close quarters since hitting a moving target with a linear shot is implausible at greater distances. Missiles are the primary long range weapon. Energy shields are not a physical barrier but will “push” against fast moving obje...

Terminus Article 10

Some background information for my sci-fi YA series Terminus

The great Imperial War occurred three centuries before Terminus begins. It led to the creation of the Great Alliance and the super-human Royals. When the war was over, the political map of the Shoreless Sea had forever changed. The Great Alliance comprised what remained of the Somontran Republic in the middle, with half of the Commonwealth to the west and the Sovereignty to the east. They had defeated the Empire and the Prophets, b...
