Please enjoy reading about my pedalboard, courtesy of Rattlesnake Cables who very kindly published my post.

Tonight. Somewhere in Southern California.

I’m reviving this old Facebook meme since I’m not on social media anymore. Tonight, I am performing with 80s Nation at Larry’s Beach Club in Oceanside. I have more personal news and more interesting news about the new Smart Barker album coming soon.

Producing music

Listening to music is all about your feelings. Making music is all about trying to making others feel. For the music maker, the two aims often coincide but making music that others can feel outweighs in importance whatever feelings the music-maker seeks to experience. Whatever makes the listener feel something is all that matters. But if the music-maker feels like he or she can only make music happen if he or she “feels” it for themselves then the result is basically masturbation. There has to be a deliberateness in art to expand outward. And this is why there are some basic rules and standards to work with because these are tried and true. It is the job of the music producer to know these rules and standards and to impose them upon the music under his or her supervision.

Happy Holidays from Smart Barker

Work continues on the new Smart Barker album, Oh, Let Us Dream A Trade (our fifth). Will it be our Synchronicity, the fifth and final album, or our Document, the fifth album that leads to greater success? Anyway, Mark and Traddles, as he prefers to be called, have finished their parts. I believe all of mine are complete. Maybe some cowbell to add. Now comes the mixing. Because it features a Christmas-related song that may be the breakthrough single for us, I’m aiming for a fall 2025 release, hopefully with some proper promotion behind it.

Anyway, we wish you very happy holidays as a respite from yet another odious year in America. Be of good cheer because it is only going to get worse!

Just Checking in

Hello. We just wanted to post something to show that we’re still here—even though we/DR are not on any social media platforms. I/DR just couldn’t handle the toxic political garbage. I know that a lot of artists and musicians are crestfallen because of what’s happening in the USA. But I’m still working on the new album and expect it will be released sometime next year. So, please hang in there with us. This upcoming album is without a doubt our best—which is why I’m taking so long producing it. I just want it to be the best it can be. Meanwhile, please keep listening to Smart Barker songs on whatever streaming service floats your boat. Thank you so much!

Side Hustle

I’ve been doing some modeling for art classes. I’m really enjoying being a part of someone else’s art. It’s been wonderful for me. There’s a discipline and strength in holding the poses. I hope to keep doing it.
