An Excerpt of My book Predestined Love
She could feel a love growing inside her each time she was around one of the kids at the orphanage, especially the babies, and it made her wonder if she would make a good mother. She placed the small dish now empty on the seat she sat on, and held the baby up and stared at her. Maria kissed the baby on her cheek and wiggled her nose against the baby’s trying to make her laugh.
The baby chuckled, and Maria laughed, lost in the moment. She did not hear when Franco, Signore Sarricuso’s son sneaked up behind her. “Hello Bella,” he whispered near her ear, almost startling her. They had met before, when Signore Sarricuso had asked him to deliver a package to the orphanage a few weeks after she had arrived in Italy. He had acted like a gentleman at the time, and he liked her. She had gone out to dinner with him a few times, but after a few dates, he tried to force himself on her.
Maria refused him, and Franco told her she would not find anyone better than him. News had reached him that she had been seeing someone.
“These are for you,” he continued as he stretched flowers to her when he joined her on the seat she sat on. “I have missed you a lot Maria. I am so sorry for the way I had treated you. Your beauty had me so captivated I could not help myself. Forgive me, please. Let me make it up to you by taking you to dinner tonight.”
Maria stared at him while he spoke. She felt disgust towards him, but she had to remind herself that the Bible says, ‘God is Love’, and for her to let others see that she was a child of God, she had to love her enemies as the Bible also says and do good for those who used her without remorse. But it was easier said than done.
