Welcome, friend. I'm the author of VERB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (coming April 2026) and THE ART OF GRACE. I'm also a journalist and educator. A native Texan, I grew up in DC as a book lover, ballet bunhead and movie nerd. ("The Turning Point" quite mercilessly ignited my dreams.) I live in Asheville, North Carolina. Thanks for asking about this. I know something about the Alexander Technique since it's a favorite of many performers. From what I know, the emphasis on natural ease stemming from proper alignment and physical bearing is right in line with my concept of grace, as involving and enhancing the entire person, inside and out. The physical is a huge part of this--our physical presence has an effect on how we feel and behave, and on how those around us feel, too. But I can't say that Alexander's writings or the technique have had a direct influence, other than the fact that they are among many sources of wisdom about the body, and about inhabiting it comfortably and healthily. You've inspired me to find out more, though!(less)

Where the Lotus Blooms

Where the Lotus Blooms Where the Lotus Blooms by Sharon K. Cormier

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The subtitle of this gently illuminating and inspiring book is "Finding Inner Peace through Mindfulness, Yoga and Meditation." But there's a peacefulness offered in the text itself, in how Sharon Cormier unspools her own story of loss and injury, offering just enough to demonstrate her intimate tie to the yoga healing she encour Read more of this blog post »

“We're distracted and we let the door slam on the person behind us, we trip over curbs as we're texting, we're...sedentary, weighed down, collapsed over the laptop. ...We've forgotten how to move through life with grace.”
Sarah L. Kaufman, The Art of Grace: On Moving Well Through Life

“Being gracious,' Rabbi Scott added, 'is allowing other people to be or appear graceful.'

In other words, graciousness - your willingness to be easily pleased - is a gift; you are giving others the spotlight and then applauding like mad and tossing roses. The gracious person creates ease with his approval, rather than judgment.”
Sarah L. Kaufman, The Art of Grace: On Moving Well Through Life

“Grace can lie in a smooth, well-coordinated motion, or in a humble and tolerant attitude.”
Sarah L. Kaufman, The Art of Grace: On Moving Well Through Life

“I look forward to an America which will not be afraid of grace and beauty”
John F. Kennedy

Sarah L. Kaufman, The Art of Grace: On Moving Well Through Life

“I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.”
Kurt Vonnegut

“We live, in fact, in a world starved for solitude, silence, and private: and therefore starved for meditation and true friendship.”
C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing is so gentle as real strength.”
Ralph W. Sockman
