Cathey Nickell is a Houston-based author and school speaker. She pulls from her background in journalism and public relations to deliver an upbeat presentation about writing, creativity, "outsider art," and how to find that spark of inspiration.

In 2017, the Texas Association of Authors awarded Arthur Zarr’s Amazing Art Car first place in Children’s Picture Book/All Ages. Her second picture book, Yazzy's Amazing Yarn, launched in August 2019 and has also won several indie awards. She is currently writing middle-grade novels.

Cathey graduated from Baylor University with a BA in Journalism in 1985. She earned a Master of Arts from Louisiana State University-Shreveport in 2013.
