The first was to research an old envelope to see how much information I could extract out of the sender, the receiver and the date. There was a story there but of limited interest. The second was to read my father’s WWII letters. In reading them, I found there was a great, well written story but I needed to extract it. I wrote this up for family and friends one of whom was an author who strongly encouraged me to write a book. I then merged the two stories and contextualized the letters adding a teaser and an enlightened revisitation at the end tie it all together.(less)
