The best thing I've come up with so far is my slinky, although sometimes I find I get so preoccupied moving it from one hand to the other I forget why I started playing with it in the first place . . . and I still have writer's block! You get to think outside your box, outside your own reality. When I first start writing, the main character always starts out saying and doing things I would say and do, it's not until a chapter or so into the book that the character takes on her own identity and through that identity I say and do what she wants said and done. Every character starts out with a little piece of me, but by the end I carry little pieces of them inside me and in their own way they change me. (less)
