I’m an animal advocate, award-winning author, solo RV traveler, old-school feminist, dog companion, unabashed lover of sunsets, and professional horse trainer/clinician. I’m sixty-nine years old. I’ve done just about everything and done it well. No longer auditioning.

My books include:

Stable Relation, A memoir of one woman’s spirited journey home.
Relaxed & Forward: Relationship advice from your horse.
Barn Dance, Nickers, brays, bleats, howls, and quacks: Tales from the herd.
Horse Prayers, Poems from the prairie.
Going Steady, More relationship advice from your horse.
Horse. Woman. Poems from our lives.
Undomesticated Women: Anecdotal Evidence from the Road

I was born in Cavalier County, North Dakota, in 1954, the youngest daughter in a farm f

You flatter me with the term "public relations", thank you. I do it all myself and it's much harder than writing, if you ask me. I get a little better all the time, but it's a challenge. I think my blog readers have been really kind and without them, this would be so much harder... so I give them the credit. So I don't have any pro resources really, but I will say that when I pull the courage together to ask for something, people are always so willing. So my advice is pretend you are braver than you are... What have you tried?? What do you write? I'd be happy to chat about ideas.(less)

Can We Talk About Our Gray Mare Future?

I’ve been pondering two conversations about horses lately. They aren’t very cheerful and I always know, no matter what I write about, I’ll end up poking someone in the eye when I don’t mean to. But people are touchy about horses, I notice.

The first conversation was several years ago, but I think of it so often. She and I were talking about horses and the future. I was traveling so much then, o

"I could not put this book down - the chapter “Sarah: She Wants to Ride” hit so close to home on my own journey with my horse. Anna’s observations on humans, equines, and canines are by turns funny, sobering, and thought-provoking. This book is a must" Read more of this review »
