Because my day job (CEO of mindbodygreen.com) is pretty demanding, I'd force myself to find time to write and not wait for inspiration to strike. I'd write whenever I was flying which over the course of a year really added up. Inspiration and discipline go hand-in-hand. There's a great quote about this from W. Somerset Maugham, “I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes every morning at nine o'clock sharp.”
