The story has an unusual setting that I'm sure readers will find highly entertaining because it not only brings something fresh to the table, it also has plenty of opportunities for humour, which is a key strand to these stories.

There's plenty of work to be completed before I'm done, though things are going really well and the new book will be out in early 2025. I've a feeling there could be some really entertaining marketing to accompany the launch, so keep your eyes peeled!

As well as the stories, I write entries for my own blog (see www.benwesterham.com) and other people's blogs every once in a while.(less)

Is Using Dialects in my Writing a Bad Thing?

Just recently I had reason to re-visit a question that has bumped around in my head on previous occasions, namely is it a good or bad thing to make use of local dialects in my writing.

I was reading a very tatty copy of Thomas Hardy’s Under the Greenwood Tree*. Hardy is one of my favourite authors, but it can be a tough gig reading one of his books as they do tend to have some pretty unhappy ending Read more of this blog post »

Samuel Johnson
“It is advantageous to an author that his book should be attacked as well as praised. Fame is a shuttlecock. If it be struck at one end of the room, it will soon fall to the ground. To keep it up, it must be struck at both ends.”
