Kent Merritt is an author, screenwriter, and songwriter. He toiled in and around Hollywood for decades trying desperately to find someone to take his screenplays seriously and turn them into major motion picture blockbusters, but it never happened.

He then worked as a ghostwriter on a few screenplays for an independent film production company in Studio City, California, hoping they would be turned into major motion picture blockbusters, but it never happened.

So, he left Hollywood and returned to his home state of Oklahoma where he now lives with more realistic dreams. He switched gears and started writing and self-publishing his own books in the hopes that someday, someone in Hollywood would read one of his books and turn it into a major m

I had plans to write it as a screenplay while I was living in Los Angeles, but I never got around to it, not having the full story idea in my head at the time. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I stumbled onto the idea of having Route 66 play a significant part in the story that it finally came together into a fully-realized story. It's funny how one simple idea can help to bring a lot of puzzle pieces together to help you finish your puzzle.

My New Novel

Greetings Everyone,

I'll be honest. I signed up for Goodreads way back in 2015 after self-publishing my first book on meditation. I created an account here on Goodreads, but I never did much with it. My mistake.

Now that I've written another book - this time a science fiction/mystery novel - I have been spending a good part of each day trying to promote it. I've just learned that Goodreads has over Read more of this blog post »

George Saunders
“The mind is a machine that is constantly asking: What would I prefer? Close your eyes, refuse to move, and watch what your mind does. What it does is become discontent with That Which Is. A desire arises, you satisfy that desire, and another arises in its place. This wanting and rewanting is an endless cycle for which, turns out, there is already a name: samsara. Samsara is at the heart of the vast human carnival: greed, neurosis, mad ambition, adultery, crimes of passion, the hacking to death of a terrified man on a hillside in the name of A More Pure And Thus Perfect Nation--and all of this takes place because we believe we will be made happy once our desires have been satisfied.

I know this. But still I'm full of desire... --"Buddha Boy”

“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”
Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing: Releasing the Creative Genius Within You

Ray Bradbury
“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury
