"October Sky" Festival

The "October Sky" Festival is named after a movie that was filmed in Oliver Springs. It is a fair where local crafters display and sell their wares. Lots of fun stuff for the kids: inflatables, cotton candy, food vendors, face painting. There will be live music and historical tours and a car show and more. AND Patches, the Stinkaroo Dog will be there if he's able. He'll be performing some of his tricks: he'll show the crowd how he can shake hands, resist a delicious treat like a piece of hamburger or hot dog, catch a flying snack, and Patches even knows how to back up on command and a few more! Let's hope he's not too shy of crowds.

Quest Academy Event

I had a great time with great people at Quest Academy in Lenoir City. I taught the older class a lesson on plot elements needed for a good story, and younger class had the "How to Draw a Dog Like Patches" lesson. The kids did a good job. I think my favorite part of the event was when the kids all wanted to show me the dog they drew.
Here's a photo my son took while I was teaching the students to draw a dog.

Another book event

Hi Everyone!
I have another book signing event scheduled. This time we'll be in Alcoa which is next to Maryville. I'll be at the Book Rack at 325 Gill St., Alcoa, TN 37701 from 1-3pm on January 9, 2015.

As is customary for me, I'll have free activity pages to hand out. There is a Stinkaroo Dog Crossword Puzzle, Synonym Matching page, How to Draw a Dog Like Patches page, and coloring pages, also a funny multiple choice quiz and a plot diagram page.
Looking forward to meeting some of my readers!
Hope to see you there.
If you already have a copy of the book, you can bring that and I will sign it.

Easter book! for Easter basket

The Stinkaroo Dog and the Forbidden Portal has an Easter theme. Here's a quote from the book: "Anyway, I followed the kids with the goods. This is my custom so I can foretell the future.....Usually a ham comes in if we are near Easter......I followed the scent of a large ham. Could be Easter…there was also green gelatin, nuts, and marshmallows for a congealed salad, and powdered sugar to make icing for the lamb cake. That clinched it. Definitely Easter. Of course, I had also noticed Mom was saving up eggs from the chickens in the fridge. Once again this watchdog had forecast the future, proving that my nose is better than some bloodhounds I know." (a quote from Patches in "The Stinkaroo Dog and the Forbidden Portal")

Here's Patches on the trail

We're out walking in the woods and Patches is looking right at the camera waiting for the picture to be taken. I think the hound likes the camera!
