Jason Rickett has been writing as long as he could form sentences. This may sound like an exaggeration, but his first piece of fan fiction was a short story with the characters from Battlestar Galactica from 1979. He was nine years old.

Jason has been writing ever since. In the early days, it was mainly to keep himself entertained, exercising a brutish imagination, gobbling up his concentration at school, at jobs, at home when he should have been doing the dishes or mowing the lawn.

He worked extensively on his high school literary magazine, first as a contributing author, then as an editor, also as an artist. A stint in college continued the blazing trail on the path of an English degree.

Then, when he was about twenty-four years old, Jason Rickett disappeared. Vanished. Legend says he made an effort at emulating Hunter Thompson, perhaps running off to join a band of travelling American gypsies whose sole purpose was to fight the war on drugs by consuming as many of them as they could. Only a thin veil of paper trail could be found concerning Jason Rickett and the bleary days lost during this period. Was he a network administrator repairing and building computers or designing virtual paperwork for a faceless corporation? Was he a guard monitoring traffic with a flashlight in a parking lot? It is unknown. It is rumored many soulful instances shaped Rickett, but they were lost to the purple haze.

Without warning, Rickett reemerged, a blip on the writing scene. An article published in an underground newspaper. Another article later. And yet another article. Soon Jason took the helm of said newspaper, transforming it into a behemoth upon the local scene. True to Emerson's belief of relying on one's true self, much like that of an adolescent boy, the newspaper became a wholly entertaining publication to offend those easily offended, and promote the local music, arts, and progressive scene within a conservative community. The little newspaper became notorious within the tight circle of those cool enough to know, those who were not the squares, those who felt like outsiders, unwanted and ostracized. Unfortunately, newsprint and ink became replaced by the Internet and devices to capture news within the palm of the hand, and the little newspaper fell into obsolescence.

Jason Rickett once again vanished. Only a select few knew him to roam Korean Massively Multi-player Online games, dressed in flowing robes, holding a long staff and taking his frustration and failure out on prepubescent boys who offered fornication with other's mothers. The virtual bloodletting flowed.

Once again, Jason Rickett appeared on the literary world. With the encouragement of his current wife, he returned to school to pursue the degree from which the American gypsies stole him away. His love for the English language and storytelling was reignited by a creative writing teacher. And from that plateau, Jason Rickett began his career as an independent published writer. Every day, he bangs at something written, even if it's a few notecards of a plot, a paragraph of writing, or a whole short story in a single sitting.

Jason Rickett has returned as a writer. His wife supports his creative efforts, in between rolling her eyes at the dirty dishes and the lawn that needs mowing. ...more
