My favorite book as a child was probably Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, but I loved all of her books and read them many times. And has it influenced my writing? Definitely. First of all it made me fall in love with historical fiction even as it dealt with so many universal themes. The character of Jo, especially, is interesting because she embodies the plight of a woman who wanted both a husband and a family and desired to have something of her own, her writing. The prose is beautiful and touching, which I can only hope to imitate. (less)

During that time, I usually try to focus on what I'm going to write the next morning. It seems to work!(less)

“There was a silence between them, then, as Clive mulled over his words, feeling that his father”

“Tales from the Vienna Woods” by Strauss was being played,”
Michelle Cox, A Ring of Truth

“Philomena’s foyer and instinctively looked around for Gunther yet again. Why was she always looking for him, expecting him to be close by? she thought, irritated. She supposed it was because she had spent her first weeks here, on and off, with him alone, and it felt odd not to see him about as she had before, running into him occasionally and sharing what they were doing or reading. Though it didn’t make a bit of sense, it had almost felt as if this was their house, that they were the sole occupants and that all of these people coming and going now were merely visitors. And she was of course desperately worried, despite Sr. Bernard’s reassurances, about his injury and how his mother had fared in his absence. Not to mention the cryptic contents of his notebook, which she longed to ask him about.”
