I wrote this book because I'm personally obsessed with decluttering and fascinated by the idea of self-help gurus. Unlike my first two books, this one resembles my own life in many ways. It's set in my hometown of La Jolla, California. And it's about a woman who is struggling to come to terms with the fact that she's gay and an alcoholic, which was very much my story. Writing about these subjects through the lens of a fictional character is something I've been meaning to do for a while, and now felt like the time to do it.(less)
Swan Huntley The store was completely out of spinach. Again.

“It took me a long time to understand that what I had wanted was not a picture of something perfect. I already had that. What I had wanted was the feeling inside the pictures, the thing I had been trying to buy and drink and eat and not eat and fake my way to all my life. I wanted what everyone wanted. I wanted love.”
Swan Huntley, We Could Be Beautiful

“Before you drown, the spinning just feels like a dance.”
Swan Huntley, We Could Be Beautiful

“You can be in the same rut for so long, and then, seemingly out of nowhere, everything changes and you remember what the point is. The point, of course, is love. To love someone, to be loved by someone: that is the point.”
