Alan Williams is based in Nottingham.

His debut novel, a story about obsession and redemption across two centuries, The Daylight Thief, was published in November 2015. His second novel, The Man Who Found Treasure, a story that plays out across the twentieth century's two great wars, was published in October 2019.

He is passionate about history and enjoys the buzz of standing in the places where history was made. He is also fascinated by how the unexceptional becomes exceptional, and the proximity and debt to the past that we all share.

These themes feature strongly in his writing, including in his blog 'The Red Writer'.

Hi Tracy. Thanks very much for the question(s)!

I am just putting the finishing touches to the first draft of my new novel. With a fair wind, I hope that it will see the light of day towards the end of this year,

The nineteenth century world of The Daylight Thief

My novel The Daylight Thief inhabits two distinct worlds. It dons both the t-shirt and trainers of the present day and the corseted and behatted attire of the nineteenth century. As the story unfolds though, we learn that the distance between these two worlds is smaller than we think.

So just how different is that earlier world ... the world of Jack Follows?

'A Month in the Country' is a very short book and Booker Prize shortlisted in its day. In its few pages, it draws the reader deep in to the intense, perfect and glorious 'Tennyson' summer of 1920.
