Key takeaways: 🔹a heavy nonfiction book that contains rare philosophical concepts and terms that are difficult to understand. Many times the words and sentences just went “in one ear and out the other,” and I didn’t retain them. 🔹the book was written a ...more |

Key takeaways: 🔹The book could have been shorter, but it is still very good; in fact, quite disturbing. 🔹People have dreamed about immortality since the dawn of time, and death is often depicted as the ultimate enemy to be defeated; however, this shows ...more |

Key takeaways: 🔹An entertaining and very informative book at the same time. It is a good sample of the irrational past of civilization, which we often do not know and therefore tend to idealize. 🔹The “perfect language” is like a Holy Grail—a myth or a ...more |

“Apocalyptic phenomenon is part of the larger phenomenon of religion, which in turn is part of the even larger phenomenon of history.”

“Nostradamus gained worldwide notoriety through an accident of history, but, ultimately, he was, like his contemporaries, only a product of the times he lived in. Just the fact that the original French prophecies are organized in rhymed quatrains proves that they were not meant to communicate a certain message, but to entertain a bored society.”

Hi Catalin -Really good to get your note. Since I wrote you last, I have been pretty active politically, and happy that Trump survived the two assassination attempts, and has energetically moved our government in a better direction. You asked me for pros and cons on his first 100 days actions.
The main things I agree with are closing the border and increasing tariffs, both of which have helped address our fentanyl death problem — about 80,000 deaths a year at the peak of the Biden presidency, and should help bring back or save American jobs. I also like Trump’s pro-peace and prosperity actions in Ukraine and the mideast.
There are many things I haven’t liked about what Trump his done, such as promoting the idea of making Gaza into a ritzy resort. Until very recently I thought he was egotistically tone deaf to do that. But as time goes on, I am more and more realizing there is more to the story than what I hear, and am now inclined to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. For example, the Gaza resort may have in fact been a Trump trolling exercise, with the real purpose of deflecting Israel from its desire to have us help them bomb Iran. Likewise his statements about Canada being a 51st state and us taking over Panama were I think also trolling exercises. I think they worked well with Panama (largely thanks to Mario Rubio, our escellent Secretary of State), but am unsure about Canada.
Thanks for your questions. Now how about you giving me pros and cons about the Romanian election winner, as I have done forl youi with Trump?
Sincerely yours, David
