Since then he lives upright on a small, twisted column, when on one foot when on the other, contemplating the world, undemanding. In the cold months he sneezes out a story or two; he has published several books with borrowed names, declaiming to a close copyist who used to be a dancer. Once a year, when the birdsong once again deafens the forest and his voice, he takes an apple from his right pocket and eats it, with some relish. He could never introduce mo ...more

Fernando Pessoa, Tabacaria e Outros Poemas

“For in me there have always been two fools, among others, one asking nothing better than to stay where he is and the other imagining that life might be slightly less horrible a little further on.”
Samuel Beckett, Molloy

“I love three things, I then say. I love a dream of love I once had, I love you, and I love this patch of earth.

And which do you love best?

The dream.”
Knut Hamsun, Pan

Dino Buzzati, The Tartar Steppe
