Kathy Connor Dobronyi is a storyteller and a retired high school teacher. Although she wrote articles for trade journals and developed lesson plans that are used teach Shakespeare by the Folgers Institute, she never considered herself an author.

All that changed in 2007 when she began working with Lee Helscel, Vietnam vet and editor of the South Marion Citizen in Ocala. He asked her to write an 8-part series about her time in Saigon from 1963-64. Audience response was overwhelming.

This is Kathy’s first book and it took eight years to get it to print.

William Shakespeare
“Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.”
William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

“Pick a leader who will make their citizens proud. One who will stir the hearts of the people, so that the sons and daughters of a given nation strive to emulate their leader's greatness. Only then will a nation be truly great, when a leader inspires and produces citizens worthy of becoming future leaders, honorable decision makers and peacemakers. And in these times, a great leader must be extremely brave. Their leadership must be steered only by their conscience, not a bribe.”
Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun: The Writings of Suzy Kassem

“You work through race, you don’t deny race. It’s the difference between being color-blind and love-struck. You see, if I love you, I don’t need to eliminate your whiteness. If you love me, you don’t need to eliminate my blackness. You embrace humanity.”
Cornel West
