I'm a redeemed child of God through Jesus Christ, blessed with a great curiosity about the world He created and all the people in it. I am happily married to my wonderful bride, Daysi, and we live with our two precious daughters in Bolivar, MO, a nice, laid-back small town in the Ozark foothills, where I help run a couple of family businesses and pastor a small, non-denominational church. My favorite subjects for reading are theology, history, and economics. When I had more time for hobbies, I dabbled in fiction writing, and self-published one short novel, "Susanna Don't You Cry," a revised version of an even longer novel of the same name, written by my mom for her kids when we were young. I hope one day to find time to write again, althoug ...more

I kind of got a double dose, though, because my mom was an English teacher, and wrote books for us to read when we were kids. (In fact, Susanna Don't You Cry is based on one such story.) With my family background, it was a pretty easy transition for me, from making up stories during playtime, to trying my hand at putting those stories down on paper.

A steady decrease in the time I had available for writing as I got older slowed me down somewhat, but my brother Jason stoked my inspiration for writing again in 2013, when he instigated the self-publishing effort that came to be known as Elisha Press. (less)

In practice, however, historical fiction requires an incredible amount of research to do properly, and it's harder to get into the minds of characters who lived in a different time and/or society.

So, in practice, I suppose my favorite genre for writing, of the ones I've tried, is contemporary. It requires very little research, and I can make more use of my own experience when writing, which makes it a lot easier. (I think non-magical fantasy might be a lot of fun, too, but I've stayed away from that genre so far, because it seems rather overcrowded!)(less)

This is a great devotional book, and I love the way that Tozer encourages us to meditate on the attributes of God, as a healthy antidote to the human-centered religion that is characteristic of our age. That said, I found this particular book a littl ...more
