Thanks so much for your lovely review - and for this question! You're right - I did want the reader to know there was some light at the end of the tunnel for Biddy. Her torment is so relentless that there had to be the promise of hope. Also, as the book starts with adult Biddy making her life-changing phone call, the reader knows from the outset that she survives the horror of her childhood. I really appreciate you not just reading the book in the first place, but taking the time to post a comment and ask a question. Thank you! (less)

“Biddy Weir: I can be normal, she thought, as she moved her body to the music with increasing ease. I can. I can do normal things like drink Coke, and buy jeans, and wear a bra & dance. I can have fun. This is fun, and I like it. Maybe I'm not a complete weirdo after all.”
