Umberto Eco
“To survive, you must tell stories.”
Umberto Eco, The Island of the Day Before

Virgil
Fléctere si néqueo súperos Acheronta movebo - If I cannot move heaven, I will raise hell.”
Virgil, The Aeneid

Michel Foucault
“Where there is power, there is resistance.”
Michel Foucault, The History of Sexuality, Volume 1: An Introduction

Marisa Crane
“In this world, you learn to hold the good days and bad days together in your lungs, and you don’t dare breathe out, for fear that in releasing the bad days, you’ll also lose the good ones. On the walk home, I think, this has been a good day.”
Marisa Crane, I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself

James Baldwin
“Even the most incorrigible maverick has to be born somewhere. He may leave the group that produced him--he may be forced to--but nothing will efface his origins, the marks of which he carries with him everywhere. I think it is important to know this and even find it a matter for rejoicing, as the strongest people do, regardless of their station. On this acceptance, literally, the life of a writer depends.”
James Baldwin
