Divided?
I'm watching a series on PBS - The Divided States of America. While my books are absolutely not any kind of political statement, I can't help but ponder the premise of this TV series. I haven't seen the whole thing yet, but its certainly intriguing.
Division of a whole leaves a space in between the pieces. Perhaps that space was already there and the division is a natural result of the inevitable. Or, perhaps the space is filled with a knife, intentionally wielded to create the division only for the advancement of the one holding the blade.
One person wrote about my first book "Who are the bad guys?" Sometimes, like beauty, that depends on the eye of the beholder - or reader - as the case may be.

The Klass series update - with musings.
With recent political events and the accompanying turmoil, its been interesting working on the final book of The Klass series.
As most know, The Klass is a conspiracy bent on removing the South (or part of it) from the United States. As the idea for the books developed, such an extraordinary action seemed impossible. I still believe it is, but one can't help imagining or even seeing what may have once been hidden hairline fractures in our Union opening just a bit wider and slowly reaching deeper.
Nothing in my books is meant as a political statement of any kind. The story is pure fiction from beginning to end and arises fully from somewhere in my head. Yet, even a fantastical plot involving secession from the union seems somewhat more relevant recently.
I'll just let my characters sort out whether a new nation forms under The Klass or not.

The Klass - Exitio and Giveaway number II
If you guys haven't seen yet, I'm giving away 7 signed sets of the first two books in The Klass series! They might make a nice gift for someone (or maybe you!)
I've begun work on the final book in the series. The background plot of a conspiracy to take over the South will conclude with ... . Well, as they say, that story is still to be written.
I confess that the political turmoil in America today prompted some of this plot. But, there is no agenda on my part, other than a good story!
At my last book signing, I was asked by a very nice lady (who I assumed was Russian) whether I thought that states leaving the United States was actually possible. I'm a lawyer and a history buff, but no expert in political science. Nevertheless, she seemed worried about it. When I said I sincerely doubted such a thing could happen, she responded that it did when the Soviet Union fell apart in the early 1990s.
I wasn't aware of that at all, but maybe I'll look into it!
