Hi Lisa,
I just saw this message from you - I must have missed it last time I was here. I'm pretty good - I had an awful head cold that has been going around, and only just starting to feel back to normal. I'm still on the hunt for an agent, which I am learning is an endless uphill battle. But I continue to work on my second book, and when I finish it, I'll put it up as an ebook like I did the first one.

Thanks for your good wishes - hope you have a good holiday, too!

I know that is a weird name, but one of the characters in my series is Erik, AKA the Phantom of the Opera. Disfigured is how I describe him. I am researching the Franco-Prussian War and its aftermath, especially the political climate at the time. Needless to say, Erik will become involved in some way. Some way that particularly suits his...er...skill set if you will. Stay tuned!(less)

“I marched along the familiar paths, hoping a fast stride would keep me warm. Part of me was enjoying the peaceful scenery while the other part pondered my newly altered circumstances. I never wallow in self-pity, for there is nothing to be gained by such indulgences, but I confess to feeling just a bit irritated.
“If only I’d had the good fortune to be a widow!” I muttered to myself crossly, kicking at a pebble in my path. Instead of a divorcée, that is to say. Quelle différence! My present circumstances would be much improved by my having lost my husband in some war, rather than by the shocking action of booting him from my life. It isn’t fair, but there we are.”

“Poor, unhappy Erik! Shall we pity him? Shall we curse him? He asked only to be 'some one,' like everybody else. But he was too ugly! And he had to hide his genius or use it to play tricks with, when, with an ordinary face, he would have been one of the most distinguished of mankind! He had a heart that could have held the entire empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar. Ah, yes, we must need pity the Opera ghost...”

“Moral wounds have this peculiarity - they may be hidden, but they never close; always painful, always ready to bleed when touched, they remain fresh and open in the heart.”

“You never know, of course, when you write a book what its fate will be. Sink out of sight, soar to the sun–who knows.

I love this quote from Frances Mayes. It pretty much sums up the Great Unknown of book writing.”
Frances Mayes, Under the Tuscan Sun: At Home in Italy
