Igor Labzin was born in Surabaya, to Russian parents Boris and Vera. He attended a Dutch school, speaking Dutch there, Indonesian on the streets and Russian at home.

His best memories of his childhood are of times when he sailed with his father Boris Labzin. a master mariner. His love of sailing and the ocean is deeply embedded in him. In 1962, at the age of fifteen, he moved with his family from Jakarta to Australia when the situation in Indonesia entered a period of turmoil in the early 1960’s.

Arriving in Brisbane with absolutely no knowledge of the English language proved to be only a temporary impediment as he quickly adapted to life in Australia. Some years later, he graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Queensland

It means that moments arrive when I just want to sit down and write something. This something usually consists of strongly held views, feelings or sudden recollections. They usually fall into some kind of a pattern because sub-consciously you are thinking of the end product, "The Story". In other words; do not force yourself to write, just make sure that when you are in the mood then don't put it off.
