Hew La France was born in Chicago, IL, but has spent most of his life in the St. Louis, MO area. As of February, 2019, Hew works as the evening lead of the registration department at a local hospital, but previously held positions at a shipping container test lab, a bank, and McDonald's (these experiences periodically wiggling their way into his writing from time-to-time).

In addition to writing fiction, he also write articles for his church's magazine, The Flame.

Hew hadn't always wanted to be a writer. After high school he had begun working on a degree in film, but dropped college after a few semesters after realizing how impractical such a degree would actually by "in the real world". During high school and the bit of college he'd taken, H

I actually used to do Star Wars fan fiction about a bounty hunter who was modeled after myself. Fun times, writing fan fiction when you're in 3rd grade...(less)

Nothing is outlined, though I'll usually have SOME idea of the overall story, or at least a few scenes I know I'll want to have happen. This I'll work on during my lunch break at my full time job.
Draft 2 is typing what I wrote and making edits and fixing the continuity along the way. This I'll do daily, aiming to type out at least 1000 words a day.
Draft 3 (which isnt REALLY a draft) is doing a complete read-through of my book to catch any errors and typos I made during draft 2. I'll do this phase whenever I can.
Lastly, I send the manuscript out for my editing group to read through and offer opinions, and catch whatever mistakes I did not catch.(less)

Breaking From Becmane

As those of you who follow me on the Book of Faces and Gram of Instants are already aware, I'm presently working on Becmane 5. How far along am I? About.... halfway through the second draft. Which is TERRIBLY behind schedule, but... I'll get back on track eventually.

I have enjoyed writing these books; they've been equal parts expressive and therapeutic. I've worked out a lot of personal issues thr

Quotes by Hew J. La France  (?)
Quotes are added by the Goodreads community and are not verified by Goodreads. (Learn more)

“John hung up the phone, standing in the cold break room in silence. The silence spoke to him. It told him a million different things his brother might have wanted to see John about.”
Hew J. La France, End Turn

“The pick-up truck belonged to his boss's boss; a real pompous ass of a man named Alex Hudson. No one was quite sure what exactly his responsibilities were, but whatever they were, he never seemed to be doing them. Incapable of running a transaction, and unable to open or do simple maintenance on an account, the arrogant man was about as useful as a tauntaun on Mustafar.”
Hew J. La France, End Turn

“John thought about nearly dying in Chicago and
this first time firing a gun, causing a realization to come to him; video games are not accurate depictions of real-world violence.
Were there a few fractured souls who lost their minds to the game and couldn't tell the difference between what was real and what was fake? Sure. But a sane mind could tell, and a sane mind shouldn't be able to kill in cold blood after five hours of Halo.
Those people had an underlying problem before they picked up a controller.”
Hew J. La France, A F K

“Many adults feel that every children's book has to teach them something.... My theory is a children's book... can be just for fun.”
R.L. Stine

“I've had a very sheltered life. What can happen to you if you stay home writing all day?”
R. L. Stine

“Loneliness becomes a lover, solitude a darling sin.”
Ian Fleming, The Spy Who Loved Me

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”
Mark Twain
