Hi Jen! I haven't been to South Korea yet. All I can say is that I've eaten my fair share of bibimbap over the years. :)

The closest I've come, strangely enough, was in a place called Bahariya, Egypt (where the Black & White Desert is). I met a couple of Koreans on the bus from Cairo. They proceeded to tell me that they were on their way to visit a Korean woman who had married a local man. Apparently she was famous back home, so anyone travelling to Egypt was advised to go see her. And if they brought red pepper powder along, they could stay with her for free.

This wasn't something I wanted to miss so I asked if I could tag along. When we got to her house, a full Korean meal was laid out in front of us on a low table. It was all rather impressive.

It turned out that more Korean women were on their way to marry locals. This was 10 years ago, so I imagine Bahariya is probably as good a place as any to get legitimate Korean food.

Wha…moreI try not to think about writer's block. The times I have experienced it have been a direct result of me trying to be too perfect with my writing. What I have done instead is become comfortable with the idea that my first draft of anything will be something resembling garbage. Editing is where the real work is done, and I find it is much easier to avoid writer's block when you're editing something that's already been written.(less)

By far the best of the 3 books in the series. Plot was well formed, characters well rounded, and events took their time to unfold. Still found Urquhart to be strangely not sinister, but maybe that's just because I'm comparing him to Kevin Spacey's ch ...more
